  1. A "bricoleur" is a person who creates order using whatever resources are available. I think any teacher, but especially a special education teacher, is definitely a bricoleur. We look at the needs of our students and find a way to get their needs met with what we have available. Being a bricoleur is a positive for a researcher because it asks a researcher to be flexible. You can follow the path that the research is directing instead of trying to force the research into the path that you perceived was going to be available. You can complete ethical research by looking at the individual circumstances that are impacting your research and making sure that voice is being heard. That may be regarding social or cultural circumstances for the subjects and how that would impact the larger population. Adding to the body of research is what would create change because it sheds light on situations that needs to be addressed.

  2. A bricoleur is someone who can create something with whatever materials are available to them. I think I can be somewhat of a bricoleur because I can come up with craft projects with materials that I have on hand. Same with cooking, I can concoct recipes with what I have in the fridge or cabinets. Being bricoleur helps with being a good researcher because I chose my thesis topic with materials that I had on hand. I chose CVC words because I have the flashcards and and created my own data sheets. With being a good researcher you need to be able to work with what you have on hand and the data you have. This works with ethical research because you are looking closely at the research and how this will help and assist others in the future with your research and ideas.

**I would define 'bricoleur' as a person who constructs or creates something utlizing whatever materials that are accessbile or available to them. I believe that in education all teachers can be considered 'bricoleur.' We are constantly adapting and differentiating instruction with what we have available to us. We use what we have access to in our classrooms to assist in our day to day lessons, while making it achievable and valuable to our students.

**Being bricoleur can help me to be a good researcher because you will analyze the data or information that you have at hand with more intensity and accuracy. I believe that being bricoleur helps me to research ethically because it does not allow me to sway from my area of concentration. This also allows room for questioning in my study and to think more abstractly as to 'why' my data is presented the way it is.

  4. How would you define 'Bricoleur' and do you consider yourself a bricoleur?

I would define bricoleur as a jack of all trades or a kind of professional do it yourself person. The solution which is a result of the bricoleur’s method is an emergent construction that changes and takes new forms as different tools, methods and techniques are added to the puzzle. This person provides solutions to a problem in a concert situation. As a teacher I would consider myself a little bricoleur. I am able to use the space and equipment that I am provided to develop and create effective lessons.

I believe that bricoleur can help you be a good researcher because you will take the information and data you were given and adapt it to your situation. To be a good bricoleur researcher depends on the questions you ask, questions depend on the context, what is available in the context, and what the researcher can do in that setting.

  5. A bricoleur person is someone that can create or put together something from whatever materials or information they have available to them. After learning the definition of bricoleur, I do believe I am a Bricoleur. I do not get frustrated or defeated because "the right things" aren't available to me or easily accessible. I can figure out how to use what I have or find what I need to get a job done.
Being a bricoleur can help one to be a good researcher because you have to think outside the box at times and see things that aren't straight forward. A good researcher has to be observant and take what information they can get and make the most of it.
Being a good bricoleur is important in doing ethical research and/or displaying social justice through my research because it is genuine information collected through observations and data collections. Analyzing the information based on its true form, working with what the genuine results are, even if it's not what the expected results were supposed to be. I think when the idea of the research is conceived, one can have an idea of what one thinks it should be but it may not turn out that way. A bricoleur will find purpose and meaning in whatever the outcome, even if it changes from the original expectation.
